Color and Silhouette

There are too many neutral (brown) tones in my home, so I am working on some projects to bring in color.

I googled "tree silhouettes" to find a tree I liked. I am a tree fan. I think they are pretty.

Trees and letters - they are so iconic and so lovely.

I also like the simplicity of a two-tone silhouette.

I printed it on cardstock so that you can't see the printer ink on the other side.

Then - the most fun, least tedious thing you will ever do - cut out the tree. All those crazy leaves.

Yeah.

Then I mod podged it onto a colorful scrapebook page.

Frame and display.

A nice little splash of color.

Akk. Don't look too close. It's not perfect.

Picture Pedistal

Saw this in on a blog somewhere and it was just background decor, so I thought I would try it out.

It took about 30 minutes and cost only $3!

So...get yourself a frame (5X7) and candlestick from the thrift store. Paint them whatever colors you want, let dry and add some embellishments if you want, then glue (Gorilla glue works best) the frame onto your candlestick and you're done! Don't forget to add your picture before you glue everything down...

Finished product. So easy, and a really fun way to display a picture.

Clothespin Frame

The quest for the dream nursery continues... I found this baby room a while ago and there was a clothespin frame like this hanging on the wall. I've wanted to make one ever since. 

I wanted to keep it cheap, so I found this frame at a thrift store. Lovely I know. I took the picture and glass out, then sanded the whole thing down. I was originally going to paint it white, but I stopped after sanding because I liked the look. I kind of just take it as it goes, with no set plan before. I like the crafting process to be kind of organic, for lack of a better term.

I mod-podged scrapbook paper to the clothes pins to fancy them up.

Then I pre-drilled my holes, and added these little hooks that I bought at Wal-Mart. I was originally going to use string wire, but I found some cotton yarn laying around, and I thought I would make us of it rather than buying something new.

And...done. Super simple, and relatively cheap.
