Free End Table Re-Do!

On my way to a friend's one day I saw this beautiful end table someone had out by the trash! I debated whether to take it but couldn't resist because I just loved the antique look of it.

Half way through my painting, I realized I hadn't taken a before picture! This is the drawer---the table was bright white with gold trim as well; very pretty but kinda cheesey. 

I decided to take a risk and just spray paint it. I cleaned it off and lightly sanded it and went for it. I used Rust-Oleum American Accents in Espresso brown. I would do a layer and let it dry...it took about 3 layers to get it all covered. I'm starting to prefer this brand over Krylon. I think it covers better and finishes off better too. This ended coming out better than I thought and doesn't look spray painted at all!! A nice, clean finish.

Here's the finished product--nothing amazing, but nice and simple. It took about 40 minutes if you count the drying time too. It's perfect because we needed another end table in our bedroom and I love it! I'm slowly re-doing our bedroom so ignore the lame decor---which means more fun posts to come (like pillows---I got some good ones!).

Drab to Fab: Bathroom Redo

 Our house doesn't need much re-doing (thank goodness!) but there are a few little things that need updating...which is fun! So, this past week I worked on giving our bathroom a little more personality and had to get rid of those horrible sliding doors to our shower.

I had taken the doors off before I remembered to take a picture and there was no way I was going to put them back on! So use your imagination.

There was a big mirror on this wall (imagine this too) that took up the whole wall. I liked it at first but then after a while it got kinda old, and we decided to put up a smaller, framed mirror.

This is the bathroom in our bedroom, see the big mirror (and the mess)? Imagine this lined in black in the other bathroom. Not bad, but a little outdated. This bathroom/our bedroom is my next project-ha...whenever I get to it!

Final Pictures:

Put up a fun and funky shower curtain found on amazon.com (the room was already painted red when we bought the house---loved it).

Add in the framed mirror and a few little touches. This isn't the biggest bathroom so there isn't much room for loads of decorations.

This is a super easy craft. I took an old frame and cut out some vinyl with my Silhouette, applied it to the glass, left the back of the frame out, hot glued some ribbon on...and done! Got the idea from Hobby Lobby.

Drab to Fab: Reupholstered Rocker

Just after we told my parents we were expecting, they gave us this beautiful rocker. It's super nice, but I wasn't crazy about the light colored fabric. We had it in our house for a few weeks and it already started looking dirty.

With my mom's blessing, I set my mind on recovering it, and it turned out pretty dang cool. This baby was tons of work! I love the brown corduroy though, I think it will hold up much better.

I found an amazing tutorial here. I basically seam-ripped all the covers open and used the original fabric as patterns. This way, I got a nice tight fit. I used a washable pencil to outline, then cut it out with my rotary cutter.

The hardest part was keeping the original snaps in tact. For the arm pieces, I just kept the original cushions and made slip covers for them. Then I made slits for the snaps and tacked them in place. 

There was a lot of hand needlework too. Especially the main back cushion. I had to blind stitch all the cushions closed. I'm really good at my blind stitch now.

The foot rest was easy (peasy). Just broke out my handy staple gun and pulled the edges tight.

So pretty. 

A beast to finish, but pretty.

Drab to Fab: Painted Fake Flowers

I've heard of people buying old flower-y wreaths at thrift stores, spray painting them completely and re-vamping them so when I saw this cute this bundle of flowers I instantly thought---RE DO!

Here is the before pictures. The "vase" was a peachy color and the flowers were white with hot pink splotches. Yikes! Yeah, that's my little boy in the background-ain't he cute?

The finished product. I painted the vase an antique white and the flowers a honey dew melon green. To cover the flowers I had to use a hearty amount of paint and dab it on with a sponge brush. It covered well and turned out super cute! 

Glass Slippers

Just for the record...I love Halloween! There is just something so fun about being ultra creative, whipping up a fun costume and feeling like a kid that I just completely love! Also, I feel like Halloween is the official holiday to kick off Fall...and who doesn't like Fall?

So, this year I'm even more excited because Marshall is the perfect age to dress up and just be so stinkin' cute and plus, we got some GREAT costumes. Davis is being Prince Charming, I'm being Cinderella and Marshall is Gus-Gus (fat belly and all-well, we'll have to stuff it. ;)).

Well, who is Cinderella really without glass slippers, right? I've seen people spray paint their shoes a ton on all these craft blogs so I thought I would try it out. Here's how it went....

I tucked some newspaper into the shoes so they would get paint on the inside. Ok, aren't these shoes just 80's awesomeness?

They I sprayed them with metallic silver and put a layer or 2 of glitter spray paint over the top (can't see if that well in the picture but they do sparkle!)

This picture is just horrible--why did I post this? My feet look weird! :) Anyways, they turned out like 100 times better than I thought they would and I've heard of people actually spray painting their real, un-costume shoes too! Might try it out.

Drab to Fab: Table Re-Do

Sorry for the late post...finally got a new power cord for the laptop so we are good to go!

Found a slamin' local thirft store and bougth this long table there for a whoppin' $12. I wanted to bring a pop of color to my living room so I decided to do a smokey blue--took a couple times to get it right.

Before:

How I did it: Simple. I sanded it really well, primed it with about 3 coats, waited a few hours and then added the paint. I used a small, foam roller brush (usually used for cabinets, you can find this at any hardware store). This made the process SUPER easy! Took about 2 coats of blue paint but I did 3 just to be safe and let it dry completely for 24 hours.

First Blue:

I LOVED this blue. It was a greyish robin's egg blue but the tone was too bright for the room. So I had some leftover paint from my kitchen walls and thought I would at least try it out and....I love it.

The final blue:

Its a nice periwinkle, steel blue. I love this color and should have just used it from the start.

Still unsure about how to decorate it but this what I have on there as of now, might change it.
